The Wind Quintet is, among others, one of the oldest formations on the History of music. His formation is Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, French horn and Bassoon. Surged in the late XVIII century thru the necessity of brig together small groups of musicians to play in fests and balls, following the tendency of the time for cut costs once almost the financial means where to Napoleon’s war.

These five instruments formed a balance group with a lovely sound. With the developments, at the time, of the construction technique of the instruments, it made possible to play some of them inside doors. It was know possible to produce less sound volume and a more pleasant to the human ear.

Thru the XIX century the festive characteristic evaluate to today’s situation, in witch most of the music played by wind quintets is played in concert halls, but still working out doors. The particular factor gives the wind quintet a variety of possible presentations not very common with chamber music ensembles.

Today the wind quintet is one of the commonly accepted as one of the most balanced groups and many big composers have written to this formation.
